Senior Competition

Senior competitive matches in the Southern Districts Tennis Association are played on Saturday afternoons commencing in early October. There is a mid season break of about six weeks from mid December until late January, when matches resume and continue until finals, which are played in March/early April. The season concludes prior to Easter each year.

The Club usually fields a combination of men only and women only teams (comprising four players) in various divisions. Matches commence at 1pm and are usually finished by around 4.30pm. The format involves each player playing one nine game set of doubles and singles (with a tie-break at 8-all). The SDTA also has doubles only divisions in which players play both single sex and mixed doubles sets.

Our Club's home games are played at Hope Ward and the Millswood tennis complex. Both are very pleasant venues featuring excellent facilities, including tournament-standard tennis courts.

Approximately half of all matches are played 'away' at opposition club venues, which range from the southern fringe of the city through to the Happy Valley, Blackwood and Noarlunga areas.

Our teams cater for all standards from highly advanced to beginners, and the Club has an enviable record of success at the elite Division 1 level. Juniors with more advanced skills are also welcome to compete in the senior competitions.

The SDTA's weather policy provides that matches are cancelled on days where the temperature is forecast to be 37C or above.

The winter season commences in May and runs through until late August/early September. This competition is organized and run by Tennis SA across a larger geographic area.

Practice for seniors is held on Thursdays from 5:00pm during the season and the courts will be open on Saturday afternoons during September for additional practice sessions in preparation for the season.
